The Ordinary products have been on everyone’s lips lately – and above all they are much discussed online, in the videos of international beauty bloggers and on Instagram. In Italy they arrived relatively recently, but for some years it was already possible to buy these products online, in particular on the international cosmetics store par excellence, Lookfantastic, but also on ASOS.
In this post I’d like to review three products from The Ordinary that I think are among the most effective of this brand.
The Ordinary is an evolving collection of treatments offering familiar, effective clinical technologies positioned to raise pricing and communication integrity in skincare. The brand was created to celebrate integrity in its most humble and true form. Its offering is pioneering, not in the familiar technologies it uses, but in its honesty and integrity.
The Ordinary is born to disallow commodity to be disguised as ingenuity. The Ordinary is “Clinical formulations with integrity”. All products of the brand are free of parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, animal oils, coal tar dyes, formaldehyde, mercury, oxybenzone.
Also, The Ordinary does not test on animals and does not pay others to do so.
For this reason, none of our brands are sold in mainland China since such sales require animal testing for registration purposes.
Another very interesting feature of brand is the extraordinary value for money of the products it offers. Especially in an industry, such as beauty, where we are unfortunately used to paying a lot of money for products that are often not very effective, despite all the promises.
For all these reasons, I would like to review three of the most valid and effective products of this brand – at least for me.
By chance, I discovered The Ordinary about three years ago, when the products sold were still really few and almost nobody in Switzerland and Italy knew them, and I was immediately won over.
Shortly after I started reading reviews of The Ordinary written by well-known international beauty bloggers and I found confirmation of the validity of these products.
So I started to test other products on myself.
In total, in the last few years I have tried about ten products from this brand, mainly serums. Some of them worked very well on me, others less so, but in any case I never experienced any negative effect.
In this post I would like to review three products from The Ordinary that I consider absolutely effective, ingenious, indispensable for my skin – and also with an excellent value for money!
The Ordinary: Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Hydration Support Formula 30 ml
I start with this product which is an absolute classic of the brand, definitely une of the most-loved and best-selling sera. I know many women who started using it recently and they are enthusiastic about it. There was even an interesting discussion on my Facebeook group about them that highlighted how many women love this product!
Official description on the package:
Synergising low, medium and high molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid, the oil-free treatment penetrates into the skin’s deeper layers to deliver intense, long-lasting hydration, whilst Vitamin B5 enhances effectiveness to leave skin smooth, plump and youthful-looking.
Not tested on animals.
Free from parabens, sulphates and mineral oil.
The liquid texture of this hyaluronic acid product by The Ordinary is pleasant on the skin and rapidly absorbed
My personal opinion about the product:
I have been using this product practically non-stop for some years now. Hyaluronic acid is a must for my 52-year-old skin and the smoothing and plumping effect is very evident, even after years of almost uninterrupted use.
I use this product in the morning, after cleansing and toning, and before I apply my day cream. The skin is not only smooth and soft, but also rosy and fresh thanks to the moisturizing effect, which is absolutely essential for me in the morning.
The product, unlike others, penetrates the skin very quickly, which speeds up my morning beauty routine and prepares the skin for makeup.
Sometimes I use this product also at night, before my usual night treatments, but I tend to alternate its use with other products. In short: for me, an absolutely indispensable must-have, even in the shortest of beauty routines!
WHERE TO BUY IT
You can find this product on two of my favorite online stores: ASOS and Lookfantastic.
Io usually prefer Lookfantastic.it, because of the great discount codes and the gifts, but you can compare the prices before you buy.

The Ordinary: Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG 30 ml
Official description on the package:
Counteract dark circles and puffiness with the 5% Caffeine Solution + EGCG from The Ordinary. Delivering a highly concentrated dosage of Caffeine and Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside (EGCG) derived from Green Tea Leaves, the lightweight serum rapidly absorbs into the delicate eye contour to help reduce the appearance of discolouration and alleviate symptoms of fatigue and stress. Skin feels refreshed and lifted with enhanced hydration and a more even tone.
My personal opinion about the product:
This eye contour product has only recently been launched on the market, but as soon as I saw it I decided to test it and, what can I say, WOW!
I don’t have a big problem with dark circles, except very occasionally if I didn’t sleep well the night before, but I clearly have signs and wrinkles around my eyes. In short, finding a product with a real lifting effect is quite important for me!
Honestly I didn’t believe in it much, after trying other products that promised the same thing and not having noticed great effects. Some of the products tested were also very expensive… I don’t want to mention names he, but a couple of high end perfumery brands really disappointed me.
Anyway, speaking of The Ordinary Caffeine Solution, from the first bottle I found a new reason to love caffeine! The product, with its rather liquid texture, is easy to apply. I take a few drops from the palm of one hand, take a small amount of the product with my ring finger and gently tap it on the delicate eye area.
They say it makes sense to use the ring finger because it is less strong than the index finger, so the pressure exerted is lower and the pressure is lower on this delicate area of the face.
The lifting effect is almost immediate: a few seconds and the entire under eye area appears not only relaxed and smooth, but also lifted! I love the effect and probably for this reason I tend to use this product even too often: in fact, if I go out in the evening, I reapply it just before going out, under or even over the makeup (it is so totally invisible and penetrates immediately).

The Ordinary: Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% 30 ml
Official description on the package:
My personal opinion about the product:
This is the latest product I purchased, after having heard wonderful things about it from a reader, who said that the product has transformed her skin from the first day. Of course, I was intrigued! The interesting aspect of this product is that, a bit like retinol, it seems to have multiple effects: on the one hand, a purifying effect in case of blemishes, on the other hand, the ability to reduce spots and redness, but also to make your complexion glowy.
Personally, I don’t have particular problems with blemishes, except for a few very occasional microscopic pimples, but I tend to have slightly “greyish”, pale skin. I have a single, light dark spot on my cheekbone and certainly I wouldn’t mind if it disappeared completely before it really showed up!
I’m currently a third of the way through the first bottle of Niaciamide, so this is a short-term review for now. Anyway, what I noticed was this:
- a positive impact on blemishes: I haven’t had any during the last weeks, except for a single, annoying pimple that’s clearly visible on my neck. Applying The Ordinary Niaciamide in the morning and retinol at night I have practically made it disappear in 24 hours. Very useful as an emergency remedy!
- lightening effect: the slight dark spot on my cheekbone seems less evident to me, but since it tends to be more visible in the middle of summer, I am curious to see how the situation will evolve in the coming weeks. For the moment, the results are positive, but not very marked because the spot is almost invisible so far.
- impact on my skin tone and radiance of the complexion: awesome!
You can almost immediately see a difference. But be careful: Niaciamide should not be used in combination with vitamin C, which I now use in the evening instead of in the morning. Apart from that, the product is absorbed immediately and leaves no residue on the skin, which is great if you want to apply makeup after that.
