In today’s post we are talking about how to refresh your spring capsule wardrobe mixing your wardrobe staples with some amazing new 2022 fashion trends.
This is the time of year when I usually start to feel a little bored about my wardrobe – I feel like I’ve already put everything on.
Of course, that’s never true, even now that my wardrobe is down to 60% of what it used to be following a few waves of decluttering.
Also because my way of tidying up my wardrobe through decluttering is certainly not a rigorous Japanese-style process: I would rather call it decluttering for fashionistas, which I have explained and illustrated abundantly here.
In short, one of those decluttering sessions that, on the one hand, helps to eliminate everything that seriously harms our style, while on the other hand highlights our “treasures” and turns our closet into our own small luxury boutique.
The first new arrivals for the new season are starting to appear in stores and especially online – often in completely different colors, fabrics and fashions.
This, for me, is also a time when, between sales and impulse purchases dictated by the desire for spring, I sometimes made mistakes with my shopping.
Because of this, over the years I’ve tried to develop some strategies to overcome the dull moment.
Because honestly, at least in my latitudes, winter is by no means over on March 21st and the first arrivals are often not the best the new season has to offer in terms of clothes and accessories.
It’s not yet clear what will actually be on fashion and the selection is still limited.
When creating my spring capsule wardrobe, I usually spend a few minutes at this point doing the following:
A quick analysis of my current wardrobeFirst of all, I quickly evaluate what I’m using for this season and ask myself a few questions:
Does this garment, accessory or style fit the current season and my daily clothing needs? Have I used this garment/accessory enough? If I haven’t, for what reasons? Should I give away/discard the item in question?
Obviously this question should result in a mini decluttering, which will highlight the best and most loved items and accessories that we can wear for the rest of the season.
When I do my closet change for spring, I always like to achieve a more spacious wardrobe that is not too full.
It gives me the idea of a small luxury boutique made only of things that fit me, that are the right size, and suit my lifestyle.
It’s often a few minutes of work that are definitely worthwhile!
Do I have items I’d love to put on that require alterations, dry cleaning or repairs?
In that case, I prepare the items in a bag on the doorstep, next to my purse, and bring it to the dry cleaner or the seamstress the very next day.
Is there anything I’ve really missed in the last few months or weeks? Would it have allowed me to create more variety in my outfits?
In my case, buying the right type of ankle boots and biker boots finally allowed me to wear a number of cropped jeans and pants styles that I didn’t like due to the lack of a properly fitting pair of shoes.
In short, in case of gaps, create a shopping list and do some shopping!
I’m going to start making a list of things I need and want right away.
Here you see some of my favorites for my spring capsule wardrobe 2022 on Amazon. I keep an updated list of what I need and want.
2 I start to take a look at new trends, by reading a few articles or blogs and taking a trip to stores for new arrivals
This is the perfect opportunity to do three fun things:
First, I start drawing up a nice wishlist.
Usually here I don’t limit myself at all, every time something attracts me, strikes me, makes me curious, etc. I mark it on a list.
Of course, the final list will often be much shorter and a bit different, but it’s still a useful exercise.
Sometimes it’s also fun to dream a little, without setting limits, inserting photos and descriptions of objects of great brands. Provided, of course, that they are in line with our “vision” of the coming season.
I also like to create a carousel of my favorite pieces for spring an summer, like this one:
Second, I open up Pinterest and start creating a mood board for spring/summer by looking at some great looks, color combinations, etc.
In a little time, I re-evaluate what I already have (both winter and spring) and select garments and accessories that fit well with the spring/summer trends and ideas that caught my eye.
The amazing thing is that even when it seems like everything is different in terms of fashion, I always find things in my closets that I already have that are in line with the new seasonal trends.
Many trends also span more than one season. These are usually classic wardrobe items and accessories that serve as the basis for new, more current outfits.
This spring many new trends are coming, some of which were already present last season, while others are brand new.

3 The last thing to do, is a nice remix of our garments and accessories.
By now you’ve surely figured out what are the must-haves, the garments that you really like, turn out to be more practical and lend themselves to creating infinite new looks.
On slightly milder days, it can be fun to start incorporating something distinctly spring-like into a still warm look suitable for cooler temperatures.
For example, I’d love to wear a patterned blouse to wear underneath my two camel coats.
Even an ethnic belt or bag matched with a neutral cashmere sweater, a white summer jeans matched with a coat and a striped sweater immediately add some spring elements in our looks.
