Are there comfortable, but also well-kept and stylish outfits to wear at home?
This is a question I’ve been asked a few times in the last few days in the emails and messages on Instagram that I’ve received.
A frivolous question, given the dramatic events of the moment?
Maybe, at least on the surface. But it is precisely in dramatic moments, in my opinion, that it is important to have short and simple routines to follow every day, but also to take care of oneself, both physically and psychologically.
For me, for example, everything starts with making the bed in the morning – a simple, everyday gesture that gives me the feeling of starting my days off on the right foot and with intention.
For someone else, the daily routine might also include taking special care of your outfit, even if only your family will be admiring the result, and maybe no one but yourself.
Most of all, it is important to be comfortable to face days that may be lazy and slow, but still urge us on so many fronts.
Because, as the ancient Romans already knew, the way we feel outside has an impact on how we feel inside. It does.
So in this post I thought to simply collect some ideas on the subject, followed by a small “gallery” of stylish outfits to wear at home.
Of course, it’s just my personal ideas on the subject. And, of course, you’re very free to have completely different opinions on the subject!
#1 DRESS HOWEVER YOU LIKE
These days I’ve really heard everything about any aspect of the Coronavirus induced self isolation at home.
For some, even washing and combing your hair is a crime these days. Others limit themselves to veiled criticism of those who dare to wear a trivial lip gloss, or even a hint of mascara.
Some others boast of their “naturalness”, often fake in an obvious way.
Personally, as a simple and straightforward person, I avoid giving any judgment on what others do and decided to stop apologizing or giving excuses because – heaven forbid – I apply an absolutely minimal makeup in the morning and, usually, I take off my pajamas, shower and put on something different from what I use to sleep. Even if it’s just a pair of leggings and a T-shirt.
I do it because I realize that these 10 minutes of “effort” help me to face the days with a different energy,.
Therefore, I invite you to do the same: dress how you want, in a way that makes you comfortable to do what you have to do at home, but above all that makes you feel better emotionally and psychologically.

#2 DRESS ACCORDING TO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO
Sure, all of us #stayathome, but not everyone has to do the same things while doing so. Some of us work and have to be presentable from the waist up, at least, for a few Skype or Zoom meetings . Some will dedicate themselves to home and cooking, some others will do a lot of physical activity or simply relax.
So take that into account when choosing your outfit for the day. Already getting dressed for some physical activity when you wake up in the morning, for example, breaks down any barriers due to laziness.

#3 IF DRESSING UP A LITTLE MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD, DO IT.
Even if at the moment social media are full of gym outfits, trendy joggers combined with little sexy tops or trendy sweatshirts and so on, if you’re used to dressing like you’re going out for a normal day (shoes, coat and bag aside), do it at home too.
There’s no real reason why you can only stay at home in leggings or pajamas. Just choose comfortable and soft materials.

#4 IF YOU LOVE FASHION, ADD A TRENDY TOUCH TO YOUR OUTFITS
Even if nobody or almost nobody sees you, it can be fun and good for the soul to add a trendy touch to your home outfits – in short, play with fashion like you do normally!
At the moment, the “strong” trends are above all two, both probably very easy to achieve with what you have: the new “jogger” sweatpants with waistbands like the ones you see in some examples below, and, more in general, the “athleisure” style, i.e. the combination of actual gym clothes, even adorned with sports logos, and more urban and everyday pieces.
#5 TRY MONOCHROMATIC OUTFITS
Do the outfits with the tracksuit look sporty and maybe a little scruffy to you?
Just try to wear the same color from head to toe: the effect will be immediately more stylish, elegant and chic – even if it’s joggers and sweatshirt.
#6 ADD A DETAIL
Another cute and fun trick is adding an extra touch to super sporty and comfortable looks: maybe a statement jewelry piece or a light and colorful scarf, or a nice bright lipstick!
#7 WEAR ONLY COMFORTABLE AND SOFT MATERIALS
No matter what “style” you adopt to stay at home – more classic, athletic or comfortable and trendy with joggers or leggings – what really makes the difference are the materials: choose soft, stretch fabrics, especially for the tightest of your garments.
Privilege breathable fabrics made of natural fibers that are also easy to wash and iron.
Add a pair of comfortable shoes or slippers: you are ready!
#8 IF THE LOOK LOOKS RELAXED, TAKE CARE OF THE REST
With great hair and a well-moisturised face – and, if you’re used to it, a hint of make-up – even a plain grey sweatshirt changes its appearance radically and becomes something really cool!
#9 NO NEED TO GO SHOPPING (OR AT LEAST NOT ALWAYS)
Now is not the time to waste your money, and we all know it. Besides, buying (even online) has also often become difficult on the practical side.
So, before shopping, it’s useful and fun to do a little decluttering in our wardrobes, starting with the jumpsuits/pajamas/home clothes section.
And then, play with your creativity, match your sportswear in a new way to create beautiful outfits to stay at home: the super technical leggings that you wear in the gym, combined with the trendy sneakers bought in January and a simple black top, can create a fabulous and stylish home outfit.
Bus sometimes, you may still need something for your outfits to stay at home, even in these difficult times. I, for example, had to buy some leggings lately, because other than a couple I used to use for the gym, I didn’t really have any.
An online site where you can shop safely and benefit from a stable and reliable service is ASOS: the choice is endless and the prices are great: SEE HERE FOR A WIDE CHOICE OF GREAT PIECES FOR YOUR OUTFITS TO WEAR AT HOME.
For a little extra inspiration:

Thank you for your advice to only wear comfortable and soft materials. I’ve been thinking about trying to wear more loungewear now that I work from home. I’ll be sure to keep this advice in mind when looking at my options.
Thank you Olivia, I’m glad this post was helfpful! <3
