Today I would like to reveal 5 secrets of the minimalist wardrobe that, if followed well, can help you a lot to dress well spending less and specially to create a harmonious closet over time. A wardrobe full of style, which reflects our tastes and our occasions of use, and above all is capable of making the most of us.
So what are, then, the 5 secrets capable of achieving a minimalist closet?
Let’s see them one by one.
1 – FIND YOUR COLOR PALETTE AND FOLLOW IT
In recent years there has been a lot of talk about color analysis, the “science” of colors best suited to each of us. In practice, it is a matter of identifying, through a series of tests and analysis, the colors that best suit our skin tone and undertone, but also the color of our eyes and hair. Those shades, in short, able to enhance each of us to the maximum, to make us shine.
To this interesting topic I dedicated also a useful video with some DIY tests to find your best colors (turn English subtitles on):
But the important thing, for the purposes of our minimalist wardrobe, is that once identified our ideal colors, this allows us to narrow the field. Buying only garments (and maybe even accessories) of our ideal color palette, in fact, we will get over time a harmonious and personalized closet.
Our new, minimalist closet is not only able to enhance us, but also to save us a lot of time and effort when shopping. And to prevent wrong purchases and save precious space in our wardrobe!
2 – ALWAYS TAKE CARE OF YOUR THINGS
Taking care of ourselves and our things is essential to build the perfect minimalist wardrobe. Wash and take care of everything in the right way, and then fold it up carefully and arrange it elegantly in our wardrobe.
This allows us to recreate the “luxury boutique” effect in our closet. And this, increasing our satisfaction with what we have, saves us impulse purchases, made only because we are dissatisfied.
Not only that: the things we take care of last much longer. And this allows us to invest more in quality garments and accessories. Because if we can use them many times over and over, we will save money in the end anyway.
3 MINIMALIST WARDROBE? BUY (ALSO) SECOND-HAND
Buying second-hand is not only thrifty, but also ecologically sensible. I understand some resistance though, for example when it comes to used shoes, which must be absolutely respected.
But, for some accessories such as bags, scarves, belts, etc. and also for coats, cashmere sweaters and other items that can be thoroughly washed and disinfected in a laundry store, a pre-loved purchase allows us to enrich and optimize the contents of our minimalist closet with unique and targeted purchases. And maybe also with luxurious and quality pieces.
As you know, I am a great fan of the luxury online second-hand store Vestiaire Collective, where over the years I have bought and sold several beautiful items.

4 – ACCESSORIZE
The ability to accessorize an outfit well is not only an art that we can develop at best over time. It is also a fundamental ability to build a minimalist, luxurious closet over time.
If we know how to accessorize well, in fact, we will save a lot of money. It is like having endless different looks with a smaller closet.
And, with what we save by avoiding unnecessary purchases in a desperate attempt to increase the variety of our looks, we can really invest in some more special and luxurious accessories.
Often, a trendy shoe or a chic handbag, or a costume jewelry piece or a nice pashmina have the power to revolutionize the whole outfit.
For this reason, accessories are perhaps the category in which it is worth investing the most (along with some basic garments that are different for each of us). It is a rule that, personally, I have been following for many years and with great satisfaction.
5 – BUY ONLY THINGS FOR REAL OCCASIONS OF USE
Finally, one last fundamental secret to create a minimalist closet that can satisfy us 100% is to buy only things that we really need, that we love and above all use often. In short, those pieces that are ideal for our everyday – or at least weekly – activities.
It is useless to invest in evening clothes if we rarely go out at night. Or in romantic and clothes if we are sporty women with an active professional life.
Let’s try to make a small list of our real occasions of use. Then, let’s evaluate what we have and what we lack instead. Avoid giving free rein to our imagination, dreaming of an imaginary life and shopping accordingly.
Also, this will allow us to contain the size of our minimalist closet and to have only things that satisfy us and make us useful services.
