Today we will talk about mature fashion and how to look chic by avoiding ten mistakes that can make our outfits less stylish.
As always, I would like to make it clear that these posts are not meant to point fingers at people or style habits, far from it!
There are mistakes that everyone, or almost everyone, has happened to make that can unfortunately make us less stylish. Sometimes it is not even “our fault” but the things we find for sale in stores.
It is also important to emphasize that whether we look elegant or not depends primarily on our attitude and behavior.
Good manners and politeness are therefore the first essential components of style when it comes to mature fashion – and fashion at any age.
And there are small details in clothing that can help elevate any outfit.
Avoid cheap-looking jeans

Totally avoid buying cheap-looking jeans that can be recognized by the lack of metal parts and the presence of fake (seams, pockets, etc.) or non-functioning elements. These are really a no-go when it comes to chic mature fashion.
Short zippers or too tight jeans can also make the outfit unattractive.
Even ugly and tacky decorations can debase jeans and the entire outfit. The best version of jeans is often the simplest, where the fabric is the star and there are no superfluous elements.
To sum up, for a stylish and neat look, it is important to avoid details that could devalue the outfit and choose simple but well-made jeans.
These can also be found for sale in chains. One of my favorite stores when it comes to jeans is Mango, which offers up-to-date and well-made styles.
Here you can find some interesting styles:
Avoid cheap looking buttons

A second element that can make our outfits less stylish is cheap buttons.
You can often find quality garments with only this small inappropriate detail. What a rage when we unearth a beautiful low-cost blazer or coat and notice that it has very poor quality buttons!
In such cases, one option may be to replace the buttons with higher quality ones, such as those made of real metal or mother-of-pearl.
Beware of poorly stitched prints and patterns

Prints and patterns can also make an outfit less stylish if they are not sewn properly.
Often, when the pattern does not match well with the seams, the garment turns out to be of low quality. In these cases, it would be best to avoid the purchase as it is not easily fixed.
Perfumes: to be chic, don't leave a trail

It is really important to pay attention to the amount of perfume you use.
Perfume should be perceived only when approaching a person and should be chosen carefully.
However, people are often encountered who use excessive amounts of perfume, making the experience annoying to others.
Avoid clothing in both tight and thin fabrics

Another aspect that can make our outfits less stylish is the overuse of stretch fabrics.
While stretch can be useful in some garments, it is important to evaluate the percentage of stretch in combination with the type of fabric and choose only when paired with a fabric that is thick enough to give some fluidity and fit that is not excessive.
It is always important to try on clothing and evaluate whether the stretch does us a favor or emphasizes any flaws.
These basics look great on women over 40:
Unsuitable colors

Another factor that can make our outfits less stylish is the wrong colors for us.
While it is possible to find clothing and accessories in gorgeous colors even in low-cost stores , there is often a large presence of primary colors and a few more refined and sophisticated shades.
My advice may be a bit peculiar, but to train the eye for elegance, it might be helpful to visit luxury sites and boutiques to evaluate the shades and nuances of our favorite colors.
Later, we can also look for these colors in great low-cost stores.
Our goal is to spend less, but at the same time train the eye for beauty, elegance and class.
It is also important to take into account color theory, to understand which colors enhance us the most and which ones we should avoid.
To be chic, analyze your (horizontal and vertical) proportions

Knowing one's physicality, knowing what looks good on us and what we should avoid, is valuable knowledge for enhancing one's look.
If you are interested in these topics, you can analyze in depth with my new course “Affina il tuo stile” (in Italian),where these aspects are explored in depth.
In general, understanding one's proportions and adjusting one's clothing, possibly even with the help of a good seamstress, is what makes even low-cost garments chic and elegant.
Nail art, yes or no?

Avoiding nail art, especially extreme nail art with highly decorated nails colored in violent colors, can help make one's look more elegant.
My advice is to avoid going overboard and, if you really can't help yourself, choose a bright but elegant color so that the nail becomes a bijou and not too jarring an element.
If you already have a complicated look with a lot of decorations, it is best to avoid resorting heavily to nail art because it risks debasing your image.
Avoid dyed hair with too harsh contrasts

The use of hair dyes with roots that are distinctly different in color from the rest of the hair, especially in the case of blond, can also create a pronounced contrast that is not harmonious with the complexion and eye color.
Make sure the hair colors have a natural effect and look good with the other colors (eyes) and your complexion.
Harmony in colors is a key element in looking chic and elegant.
Use hemlines and necklines strategically (less is more)

Finally, to be chic, it is helpful to avoid uncovering too much at once. Better to enhance certain parts of your body without overdoing it, at any age!
We therefore choose to match a short skirt with a not too generous neckline. Conversely, if we wish to enhance the neckline, we choose longer hemlines for our dresses.
It is a matter of aesthetic balance, not a moral one!
In short: If we know how to play around and change the elements of our look, we can achieve a more elegant and chic look, just by paying a little more attention.
