In this post I would like to tell you about the Louis Vuitton Speedy bag and offer you a full review of one of the best investment bags ever.

Considering the huge and unaltered popularity of the well-known Louis Vuitton Speedy, I decided to dedicate an entire post to this bag, perhaps the most famous model ever among all the Vuitton bags currently on the market.

The Speedy Damier 30, Vuitton’s most popular bowling bag, available in classic monogram and various other versions, is one of the longest running bags in my collection and is also, to this day, one of the most loved and used.

Aside from formal evening occasions, there’s no situation where the legendary Speedy 30 doesn’t turn out to be practically perfect!

The Louis Vuitton Speedy bag is sold in four different sizes, from the 25 to the 40cm size (the travel bag size).

The most common and, in my opinion, versatile variant is without doubt the Louis Vuitton Speedy 30, which, in fact, is also by far the most sold in the world.

It exists in three basic versions – Monogram, Damier Ebene and Damier Azur – plus a series of special editions, the result of various collaborations and special collections.

Since a few years it is also sold in the Bandoulière version, with original Vuitton shoulder strap.

You can also add some decorations and your own initials, resulting in a personalized Vuitton top case.

Alternatively, you can purchase a shoulder strap separately and attach it to the base of the handles, as I did.

The shoulder strap makes Vuitton’s Speedy satchel a true allrounder, as well as being very cute worn.

HISTORY OF THE LOUIS VUITTON SPEEDY BAG

Born in the 30’s, it was initially conceived as a reduced version of the Keepall bag, with which Louis Vuitton entered the world of luggage.

We are talking about the first bag in history to be both foldable and waterproof. A true revolution.

The renowned monogram canvas – often mistaken for leather – was designed specifically for the Speedy, which has been made exactly as we know it today since 1859.

Initially its name is not Speedy but Express, to underline the new way of travelling of high society members, faster and more future-oriented than common people.

The success on a global scale comes in the 60s, when the bag becomes the travel bag par excellence, the model to be inspired, the accessory to have.

Audrey Hepburn fell in love with the famous trunk and in 1965 asked the brand for a customized version, a little smaller than the one then on the market (30 centimeters).

This is how the smallest model, the Speedy 25, was born.

Every single stitch of the Louis Vuitton Speedy bag is studied in detail and faithfully sewn and made by hand.

The Toron handle alone, for example, requires no less than 18 steps.

It starts in fact from 745 euros for the Monogram version of 25 cm and for an iconic bag of one of the largest luxury brands on the planet is almost impossible to find a better price, since the price of most of the “it bag” now largely exceeds 1000 euros.

THERE ARE SEVERAL OPTIONS

 If you don’t love Monogram, there are other options.

The Louis Vuitton Speedy Monogram is perhaps the best-selling (and also the most imitated) option, but by far not the only one.

In recent years in particular, we have seen a real fashion for the Damier Ebene version, alongside the perhaps more summery but no less beautiful and wearable Damier Azur.

I specifically chose the Damier Ebene, because I find it better suited to my colors and I like it best paired with black, a color I wear quite often.

Moreover, it is still less inflated. Besides these three versions, however, there are many others.

IT’S INDESTRUCTIBLE

It is virtually indestructible and remains unchanged over time.

I can confirm this firsthand: my Speedy Ebene has traveled the world, been on Canadian glaciers, in the three oceans, in the African savannah and in some deserts.

Yet it always looks as good as new.

The cowhide leather parts, like the handle, of the Monogram and Azur versions will darken over time, but otherwise this is truly a stainless bag.

PERFECT ON ALL WOMEN

It is one of the few shapes suitable for all physical shapes.

The Speedy Bags come in different sizes.

They can be carried by hand, at the “elbow” or on the shoulder and, with the shoulder strap, even crossbody.

IT’S AN ICONIC BAG

The Louis Vuitton Speedy is an iconic bag since the days of Audrey Hepburn. And if a bag is in vogue since the 60s, there must be a reason.

Remained a classic over the decades without ever waning, periodically and repeatedly lives moments of great trend.

A difficult result to emulate in an era in which even the most luxurious and expensive “IT bag” is launched on the market, worn for a few months by all the bloggers on the planet and then quickly set aside.

RETAINS ITS VALUE OVER TIME

It retains its value over time: in fact, it can be easily resold, without great loss, on the second-hand market.
