Many of you have asked me to write a post of useful tips on how to dress in summer and create beautiful, chic, european-style summer outfits.
Because when the temperatures rise, everything changes: the light, the colors, but also the way we experience the city or the vacation spot.
Therefore, when summer comes, it is important to adapt our style to the hot temperatures. Dressing well in the middle of summer, with style and class, is definitely possible – just follow a few small tricks!
1 – HOW TO DRESS IN SUMMER? USE NATURAL, BREATHABLE FABRICS
When it’s hot, it’s more important than ever to dress in garments made of natural fibers: cotton, linen, but also silk and viscose are great for keeping us cool and stylish all day long!
Also try some new fibers with a somewhat mysterious name, but still of natural origin, such as Modal for T-Shirts. The effect is sure to be elegant. These are my absolute favorite T-shirts, I own them in every color!
2 – CHOOSE YOUR COLORS CAREFULLY – AND DEFINITELY YES TO TOTAL WHITE
When temperatures rise, the first instinct is to turn to light colors.
Which are not only more aesthetically summery, but also have the great virtue of “warming up” less and thus helping to keep us cool all day long.
White, in particular, has this magical power. And this year it is more trendy than ever.
So, green light to total white – but also to its more elegant combinations: with beige, grays, black and many colorful patterns!
3 – WATCH OUT FOR THE UNDERWEAR THAT POPS UP
Obviously, this is a focus to have year-round, not just in summer. But on bare skin, underneath tops and low-cut dresses, the flesh-colored shoulder pad poking out is particularly inelegant.
Therefore, we choose underwear with an invisible effect.
Amazon, by the way, has a huge variety of invisible underwear and shapewear from the best brands.
And, if the top or blouse is really low-cut or distinctive, let’s try wearing a nice bikini top piece under it.
It’s a trick that can be very stylish and elegant, especially if done in the right way: with a jewel-effect bikini top peeking out from a blouse neckline, or with a patterned triangle bikini top left to peek out under a white shirt worn a bit open, for example.

4 – MINIMAL TANK TOPS AND TOPS IN THE CITY: USE THEM IN SMALL DOSES
5 – LONG SLEEVES AND LONG PANTS? CHOOSE THEM IN THE RIGHT FABRICS!
Choose flowing, impalpable fabrics, and you can also wear long-sleeved garments and long pants. In fact, gauzy blouses and pants are especially elegant especially in summer with a hint of tan!
6 – SHORTS: SUITABLE FOR THE CITY, IN THE RIGHT SHAPE AND WITH THE RIGHT SHOES
Avoid crotch-hugging models that leave half of your butt uncovered and prefer the more chic, urban models.
In general, the following rule applies: the shorter and tighter the model, the lower the heel should be, and the wider and less low-cut the top should be.
A pair of denim shorts, for example, can look great when paired with a flat sandal and a blouse with soft lines. These shorts by Levi’s are the absolute longtime bestseller on the market.
A wider and longer model, on the other hand, can also be worn with a pair of heeled sandals and a top or T-shirt.
7 – SANDALS AND FLIP-FLOPS: PAIR THEM WITH A NICE PEDICURE
Sandals, flip-flops and other purely summer styles that leave a tan foot exposed are very stylish in summer. The important thing, to dress well in the height of summer, is to match the footwear:
- to the occasion
- to a well-groomed foot, perhaps with a bright nail polish
So, let’s avoid flip-flops in the city (they are also uncomfortable) or choose a pair of chic, flat sandals instead.
Conversely, let’s avoid overly elegant or high-heeled models if we are in tourist locations where a casual chic style predominates.
8 – YES TO TRANSPARENCIES, BUT IN MODERATION
Summer is the season of intangible fabrics, and a subtle “see-through” play can be beautiful, especially when made from typical summer fabrics.
To dress well in the height of summer, therefore, we try some subtle overlays with garments that are by nature somewhat sheer, such as linen or cotton gauze.
9 – CROP TOPS AND DRESSES: IF YOU REALLY WANT TO, WEAR THEM AT THE BEACH
Consider whether or not displaying a sculpted or less sculpted abdomen really creates added value in your style.
In fact, there are many other ways to enhance a fit physique as well, many of them more subtle and refined.
10 – ADOPT WIDER SHAPES
In summer, it is important to stay cool and comfortable, avoiding those garments that risk sticking to us as soon as temperatures rise.
Even more than the quality and quantity of fabrics, in fact, the perceived temperature depends precisely on the airiness of the garments worn.
Therefore, welcome fluttering blouses and dresses, cropped pants with loose, flowing patterns, and maxi dresses of impalpable fabrics with soft, sweeping lines.
11 – NO TO PLASTIC MATERIALS LIKE JELLY SHOES OR PLASTIC BAGS AT THE BEACH
Avoid for both clothes and accessories all “plastic” details.
Although the “plexiglass” effect seems to be one of the strong fashion trends this year, in fact, under the hot sun these materials are simply out of tune!
Let’s leave at home bags made of plasticized materials, jelly-effect shoes and sandals, as well as bras with rubberized straps and tops with plastic inserts – in short, anything that looks like it’s about to literally melt under the sun!
12 – ADAPT STYLE AND COLORS TO SUMMER
Finally, let’s re-evaluate our summer wardrobe by changing our usual color palette a bit: if we’re tanning, let’s experiment with brighter colors than we usually use.
In general, let’s go for fabrics in light-colored shades, which perform best in summer light.
And, even if we are great lovers of black, let’s limit its use to evening occasions.
Finally, even if we stay in the city, let’s incorporate some summer touches into our outfits – perhaps some colorful accessories like these amazing and super trendy JW Pei Handbags, or jewelry purchased on your last exotic trip.
Or, again, distinctly boho – chic dresses and blouses, which also go well with a minimal or contemporary style.
