How to wear a cardigan, the classic women’s clothing item that this season is back in style in unusual and innovative shapes and combinations?
I have to admit it: I have always found the cardigan a difficult garment to wear and, let’s face it, also a bit old-styled.
This season, however, the cardigan returns in new and unusual combinations, both on the catwalks and in street style, like these ones:
That’s why, in this blog post I would like to propose you some of the most current and trendy models and combinations that can be easily taken from the designers’ new proposals.
And who knows, among the many suggestions, there isn’t something suitable for us too, capable of removing some of the resistance that many women, like me, have always nurtured towards the cardigan.
How to wear the cardigan this season, then? Let’s start now with some suggestions!
1 – The short, V-neck cardigan
Perhaps the easiest model to adopt is the v-neck model of big, heavy wool, with large buttons and especially short waist.
When paired with a pair of pants or jeans with a slightly high waist, it creates a nice hourglass effect and therefore tends to look good both on women with an hourglass physique, but also to those with a rectangle body shape that need to slightly enhance the waist.
2 – The long cardigan
It has always existed and is probably the easiest and most forgiving model ever, especially if chosen in dark color shades.
The novelty of the season? New patterns, colors and details (such as the striped models that you can find in many stores) that you should definitely try!
3 – The classic cardigan, worn as a blouse
Another trend is to wear the classic twin set cardigan, buttoned or unbuttoned, as if it were a blouse, tucking it into your jeans or pants (or try a half-tuck if you prefer).
A trend that perhaps doesn’t suit everyone, but if you have a slim enough waist it is certainly worth a try, even to recycle in a trendy way a garment that, probably, many of us already have in their closets.
4 – The coatigan
The perfect model especially for the milder fall months, when it can replace a “real” coat very well.
It’s beautiful, depending on our physical type, both in the oversized open version and in the slim fit version and with waist belt.
5 – The “chunky” cardigan, made of heavy, sometimes textured wool
This model is not only very beautiful, but certainly also trendy.
It requires, however, in my opinion, a little bit of caution. It doesn’t suit all body types, but rather women that are a bit androgynous and not very curvaceous, because it tends to add volume to the upper body.
An interesting outfit to recreate is to match the raw wool and slightly oversized cardigan with a silk camisole, possibly with some lace, to create an ultra-feminine contrast.
I hope that you liked some of the cardigan options that I showed you in this article and that, perhaps, this has encouraged you to give a second chance to a garment that, until now, many of us had relegated to more stay-at-home outfits!
Personally, I think I’ll experiment with the short waist model, but also with the long and slim coatigan, which I think are the most suitable options for my body type and style.
