How to style a black floral dress – especially if you don’t like prints very much (especially those with flowers, then), if you are not entirely at ease with the “new” lines of dresses proposed by the fashion fall winter 2019/2020 and, moreover, you have always been convinced that wide garments do not look good at all on your physique?
I asked myself this question. But then, I simply decided to try.
Usually, when we struggle to incorporate a new trend (even if it attracts us when we see it on other women) into our style, it is for one of these reasons:
- We are convinced that it does not fit our usual style
- … or we don’t know what to combine a trendy garment or accessory with in order to achieve the desired effect. We may like it very much on others, but we do not know how to style it on us.
- If we’re over 40, maybe we think we’re misplaced. In that case, read THIS POST. Or, if you speak Italian, watch this video I made some time ago! 🙂
- Maybe, we’re also afraid it won’t look good on us or enhance our features. For example because we think we are too fat/too thin, too small/too high, with fat legs or wide hips, with a muffin top or simply with the wrong proportions.
But very often it is not individual areas of the body that put us in crisis, nor our weight on the scale. No, it is rather a question of working on the image we have of ourselves, but also of studying various outfits in depth, in front of the mirror, and doing some tests. But also to use some or even many tricks that allow you to better adapt what we wear to our physicality. It serves to successfully overcome our self-limiting beliefs and to better express our “fashion potential”, making the most of our assets!
My new red Gucci Marmont bag combined with a black floral dress. In fact, my new red Gucci Marmont bag is one of the “fashion investments” of the season and for this reason I am creating as many outfits as possible around it!
And of course, adopting a new trend does not mean completely changing style or turning into a creature whose style constantly changes, at the mercy of the fashions of the moment. It would be very penalizing and certainly a big mistake. Better then to stay and faithful to our own style, incorporating one new thing at a time and play around with it. And keep everything else true to our style and tastes.
I, for example, chose for the rest very simple and neutral-colored garments (blacks, like the base of my black floral dress) and my new red Gucci bag, which takes up one of the colors contained in the pattern of the dress.
So I still feel “myself”, the only element a bit different is given by the volumes and the imagination of the dress, while for the rest the colors, my silhouette and even the makeup remain very clean and simple, as I like.
